LOANS: Lending for Change, Investing for Growth

Who Can Borrow from the Loan Fund?

  • Owners of established businesses
  • Individuals who want to start their own businesses
  • Nonprofit Organizations

We assist businesses and nonprofits that provide positive social benefits, meet other special requirements, and are unable to access loans from traditional sources, such as banks. We place particular emphasis on helping low-income people, women and minorities.

What are "Positive Social Benefits"?

Examples of "Positive Social Benefits" include:

  • Creating and preserving jobs that pay sustainable wages and benefits
  • Providing basic services and affordable housing in disadvantaged communities
  • Preserving and advancing traditional communities, cultures and ways of life
  • Contributing to the revitalization of urban and rural communities

What Types of Loans Does the Loan Fund Make?

  • Loans to new and existing small businesses for such needs as equipment, inventory, building renovations and operating capital.
  • Loans to non-profits for such needs as bridge financing against awarded private and public contracts, capital improvements and equipment.
  • Loans to non-profits that develop affordable housing.

What are the Loan Terms and Repayment Plans?

We provide flexible payment schedules which are negotiated between the Loan Fund and the applicant on a case-by-case basis. All loans require collateral.

Do I Qualify for a Loan?
You may Qualify if You:

  • Own (or plan to own) a small business in New Mexico or the Navajo Nation, or
  • Manage a nonprofit organization in New Mexico or the Navajo Nation, AND
  • Can show how your business or nonprofit would provide positive social benefits
  • Have a reasonable credit history
  • Can offer acceptable collateral (for example: car title, mortgage, equipment)
  • Can demonstrate your ability to repay the loan

If you aren't successful in procuring a loan with us, we recommend talking to NHCash about a credit line. A credit line can be more beneficial than a standard loan in certain situations as it offers more flexibility.

How Long Does it Take to Get a Loan?

The length of time can vary. The quality of information and documentation often will determine this process.
